Biography

Dr William Finnegan BE (Civil) PhD CEng MIEI is a current member of the College of Engineering and Informatics Research Staff and an Adjunct Lecturer. He graduated from NUI Galway with a B.E. in Civil Engineering in 2009 and a PHD in 2013, which examined the ‘wave-structure interaction of offshore wave energy converters’. His main research interests are in the development of computational fluid dynamics models for application in marine renewable energy research, performing experimental investigation of hydraulic systems and in applying lifecycle assessment to examine the environmental impact of civil construction projects, wastewater treatment technologies, renewable energy systems and product manufacturing systems.
For 4 years, he was a Post-doctoral Researcher and Project Manager at NUI Galway of the DairyWater Project, which is a large scale project dedicated to improving the sustainability of the Irish dairy processing industry. Currently, Dr Finnegan is undergoing a SFI Industry Fellowship at Éirecomposites, an Irish manufacturing and testing company of fibre‐reinforced composite structures, exploring innovative engineering solutions in order to improving the efficiency of manufacturing wind and tidal turbine blades.
